小說(shuō)中的情節(jié)和人物雖然純屬虛構(gòu)，然而卻以作家生活的現(xiàn)實(shí)世界為基礎(chǔ)。如發(fā)生小人國(guó)里的'種種荒唐的所作所為。無(wú)一不是以當(dāng)時(shí)英國(guó)統(tǒng)治者的腐敗和罪惡行徑為原型的，因而具有深刻的現(xiàn)實(shí)意義。再如飛島國(guó)中的可惡行為諷喻的是英國(guó)對(duì)愛(ài)爾蘭的統(tǒng)治。這種手法運(yùn)用得巧妙，并且不失嚴(yán)肅，給人以強(qiáng)烈的真實(shí)感。
