英語六級寫作：替換掉那些老掉牙詞匯
不管是英文還是漢語，最常用的基礎用詞都是翻來覆去的那些。漢語里修飾形容用的千篇一律會被嘲笑詞匯貧乏，英語考試中自然會有一樣的通病。當你和眾人一樣翻來覆去只會使用那么幾個基礎詞匯的時候，英語六級閱卷老師也會因為用詞的大同小異而感到審美疲勞，這種時候還如何脫穎而出得高分呢?所以，拋棄那些千篇一律的用法，嘗試用這些新詞匯來替代吧!
1. 支持(support)
advocate
We advocate solving international dispute by negotiation, instead of appealing to arms。
我們主張通過協商解決國際爭端，而不主張訴諸武力。
argue for
Do directors see new risks that argue for a different approach?
董事們有沒有看到可能支持不同做法的新風險?
in favour of
The majority voted in favor of the proposal。
多數人投票贊成這項提案。
2. 反對(object)
argue against
Three considerations argue against increasing fee。
三種理由反對增加費用。
be opposed to
Mr Clarke has shown himself to be resolutely opposed to compromise。
克拉克先生已表示自己堅決反對妥協。
frown on
He would frown on such aproposal。
他不會贊成這樣的建議。
3. 許多(many)
numerous
Numerous factories have sprung up in this once desolate area。
過去這一帶滿目蒼涼，現在卻有了無數的工廠。
a host of
The special theory of relativity has raised a host of questions。
狹義相對論引出了許多問題。
a multitude of
I was awed by the multitude of stars in the night sky。

4. 不同的(different)
various
These data have been collected from various sources。
這些數據是從各方面搜集來的。
a variety of
A variety of heavy industries grew up alongside the port。

diverse
People hold diverse attitudes toward these new regulations。
人們對于這些新規定抱有不同的態度。
5. 普遍的(common)
commonplace
Yet on the most commonplace occasion I can never know your thoughts.
然而即便在最普通的場合我也琢摸不透你的心思。
universal
Such problems are a universal feature of senior citizens。
這類問題是老年人的通病。
pervasive
It is the most pervasive compound on earth。
它是地球上最普遍的化合物。
6. 唯一的(only)
solely
Success should not be measured solely by educational achievement。
成功與否不應只用學業成績來衡量。
unique
The examples are unique to this dictionary。
這些例證是這部詞典獨有的。
merely
You are merely reciting facts that you have learned by rote。
你只是在背誦自己死記硬背下來的東西。
7、許多 (many)
numerous
Scientific development meant the growth of numerous professions ancillary to medicine.
科技發展意味著許多醫學衍生職業的增長。
a host of
The new e-books will include a host of Rough Guide titles.
新電子書將包括大量的簡明指南。
a multitude of
There are a multitude of small quiet roads to cycle along.
有很多可以騎車的寧靜小路。
8、不同的 (different)
various
They've been living and working peacefully with members of various ethnic groups.
他們和不同民族的人們一起和睦地生活和工作。
a variety of
West Hampstead has a variety of good shops and supermarkets.
西漢普斯特德有各種各樣不錯的店鋪和超級市場。
diverse
people from diverse cultures
不同文化背景的人。
9、普遍的(common)
commonplace
Simpson's much vaunted discoveries are in fact commonplace in modern
sociology.
辛普森的那些被大肆稱贊的發現在現代社會學中實際上都不足為奇。
universal
He was probably right to intuit that it was universal.
他憑直覺認為它具有普遍性，也許他是正確的。
pervasive
It is knowledge directed to the fundamental and pervasive concerns of
existence.
它要回答的是人類生存的根本、普遍的問題。
