首先他有一個好媽媽，費盡心思讓阿甘受到了正常的教育，懂得了做人的基本準則。也懂得如何正視別人的嘲諷。在Jenny的幫助下，他學會了飛一般的奔跑。
再則他有那種傻傻的，淳樸的勁兒和他那顆執著的心。
自從他學會跑步開始，他就沒有停止，上哪里都跑去，因此得到了橄欖球教練的青睞，出色的跑步能力，使他成為一名出色的橄欖球隊員，最后得到了全隊的尊重，包括以前瞧不起他的人。長跑跑了整整三年，有人認為傻，但是因為他想這么做，他喜歡，他就去執著的完成最后精神鼓勵了大批的.追隨者，成為長跑的代表性人物。
后來他當了兵，認認真真的完成他的上級丹上尉派給他的任務，叫上了交心的朋友 布巴，他們參加了越南戰爭。當他們在遭到襲擊時，只有他一個人憑著出色的奔跑能力，逃出險境。但是他想到了戰友，想到了布巴，不顧硝煙，一次次跑回了槍林彈雨，執著的背出了許多戰友，丹上尉和布巴，他也受了傷，他的舉動獲得了榮譽勛章。
他在軍隊了接觸了乒乓球，傻傻的就愛上了，從此拍不離手的練習，我沒有其他想法，就是喜歡乒乓，因此堅持不懈的努力和執著的精神，獲得了代表美國征戰中國的選手資格。
他就因為布巴生前的一句話，退役了之后，幫布巴去實現他的愿望，干起了捕蝦的行業。他傾囊而出，購得一艘捕蝦船，在常人眼里看來，他瘋了。一天一天失敗而歸，他沒有放棄，執著的堅持，終于有一天他滿載而歸，成為當地唯一堅持到最后的捕蝦船長，創辦了公司，成為了億萬富翁。就在人們認為他功成名就的時候，他又執著的捐獻了自己的資產，他認為賺錢不是人生最終的目的，回到了自己的家中，過起了平淡的生活。
阿甘對Jenny的愛情，一直是專一而深刻的，盡管Jenny一次次的離開，去外面的世界闖蕩，玩吉他，瘋狂地叛逆，追求另類的生活，但是阿甘仍然執著的等待，在Jenny落魄的時候，真誠的守候。
媽媽的良好教育使他具有正確的人生觀，他雖傻，但是善良，重情義，樂觀，無私豁達，始終保持一顆單純執著的心。
反思我們自己，我們可曾象阿甘一樣那么執著的完成一件事情?堅持到底。堅持真的很難。我們受到了也是很好的教育，但是我們沒有把我們學到執著的運用到實際中去，是我的智慧比不上阿甘?當然不是。我們應該拿出我們的毅力，堅持，不顧旁人的嘲諷和外界的壓力，先前跑。
