With endless extraction, how much will be left for our children? Future consideration is a serious problem. We need to take actions now; even the harvest will be few years later or even longer. If not, how would our children survive with scarce resources?
But some social problems need to be solved immediately in case it will turn to a profound emergency, such as environment issue. If we do not lay more stress on this problem-just caring about the economy development and ignore the environment construction, the fresh air and beautiful scenery will never come back. Before the current problems getting worse and worse, we need to take actions from now on. Also, the higher unemployment rate is another serious risk. Not solving the higher unemployment rate immediately, it will widen the gap between the rich and the poor. Creating more job opportunities, offering skill training for workers, and increasing the government spending…those actions must be carried out with not hesitate to solve the current social issues.
Sometimes the economy construction will be on the base of harming the environment. Such as one more acre of industry land will be one acre less farming land. But we cannot say it is impossible to harmony the development of economy and environment. If improving the technology that reduces the wasteful pollution, the condition will be much better. Somali fishery created the economy prosperity. But over fishing destroy the environment. It is both a current problem that avoided a booming fishing area from disappearing, but also a long-term issue that we need to care about our future generations and leave resources for them.
Long term and short term decisions are not independent issues. We usually measure short-term goals in relation to long-term goals. Thus it is essential to balance the relationship between these two. Current development and future sustainable are equally important to the society and to the decision makers. If asking for a durable profit, decision makers should take both- future and current conditions- into consideration.
